What is a Dental Emergency?

A dental emergency can be any oral condition which is causing you pain, bleeding, or discomfort, and that you cannot treat on your own. While this includes some obvious conditions like a loose tooth or a tooth that has been knocked out, it can also includes things like a serious toothache that may have been bothering you, a pulled-out filling, and even cases of severe gum disease.

How Do I Get an Appointment For a Dental Emergency?

If you think you’re experiencing a dental emergency, give our office a call at (479) 996-4181. We can determine if you need immediate assistance or if an appointment can be made within the next couple of days. If you are coming in for an emergency appointment, we’ll ask you to explain the situation so that we can prepare for your arrival.

What Can I Expect During an Emergency Appointment?

This depends on the type of emergency that you’re experiencing. Once you come in to our office, our dentist will assess the situation and proceed accordingly. Most dental emergencies fall into one of the following types: chipped, broken or knocked out tooth, a lost dental restoration, intense tooth pain, uncontrollable bleeding, or an abscess.

What Are Some Common Dental Emergencies?

The most common type of dental emergency is pulled-out, missing, or damaged dental work. It’s quite common for dental work (such as fillings or crowns) to become damaged or displaced, and this can be a serious issue. The enamel below your dental work is vulnerable to decay and damage, so if you do not get help right away, your issue can become worse. Other common dental emergencies include oral injuries, lacerations, chips, cracks and severe tooth aches.
